I’m sitting here in Starbuck’s trying to knock out some work while listening to one of my favorite videos of all time. (bonus would be to actually watch it HERE)
I’m gearing up for the New Year on the business side of things after dealing with an awesome, albeit time consuming, holiday stretch.
In the span of 1 hour so far I ran into a former member of the gym, my brother’s ex-girlfriend’s little sister, and the infamous Mad-Dog-Maddie (IYKYK).
Just setting the stage is all.
The Wanting
I am not perfect. I strive to be better.
I want to be a better father and husband. I want to be a better role model for the members of my gym. I want to learn more and improve my business so as to help more folks achieve a healthier life. I want to improve my relationship with God. I want to be happier. I want to experience less anger. I could continue this list for a while folks.
Now you are probably here because you want to hear me talk about health and fitness right? Well don’t worry I’m getting there.
I don’t really care about being shredded. I don’t really care about doing a split. I don’t really care about benching 340lbs. All of these things could very well be on the table for me in the future… but it damn sure won’t be the ends… perhaps the means.
The Deep Desire
This probably sounds familiar if you think about it for more than the 1.7 seconds you spend scrolling by the 30th Instagram post promoting another random gym membership or online training program that grabs your gaze via a sweaty six pack or a girl with a big butt in yoga pants.
Every year you say you will get healthier.
Every year you say you’re going to drop that 10 or 20 or 30 or 40 pounds.
Every year you say you will get stronger than ever.
BUT WHY?
Why do you want these things?
Are you happy with who you are?
Do you feel like you aren’t measuring up to who you can be?
Do you feel like you are letting others down?
Do you think if you worked on yourself it would result in a healthier social life?
……….breathe
I know that was a lot there but what I am trying to do is to get you to dig a little bit.
We need to get deeper… we need to uncover the thoughts and emotions that aren’t fleeting.
The Way Forward
The way forward isn’t [only] joining this gym. I’m not going to lie to you and say that every person who joins this gym radically changes their lives for the better by getting insanely strong and healthy.
Here is what I will honestly tell you:
The people that I find most successful in this gym do not experience such success linearly. They have periods of growth and stagnation. They experience injuries at random times that sets them back. They go through family struggles. They go through self-doubt. They go through anxiety. They go through confusion nutritionally.
BUT
They don’t stop. They continually self-evaluate and come to the understanding that setbacks last only as long as you allow them to. They practice patience. They lean into moments of high motivation and trust the process of incremental growth when motivation is lacking.
The Proposition
So as we usher in another year I want you to take a moment and ask yourself if you are ready to commit to real progress.
I propose that you join my New Year New You program.
I hope you do that because I believe I can help you narrow your vision to the things that matter.
I believe I can help you get stronger BECAUSE of what that means to you.
I believe I can help you lose weight BECAUSE of what that means to you.
I believe I can help you get out of pain BECAUSE of what that means to you.
1% better can really add up I promise you.
